Job Description
The Senior Technical Officer provides strategic technical leadership for the USAID-funded STRIDES Activity at the state level in Adamawa, Nigeria. This senior role focuses on strengthening infectious disease surveillance systems, laboratory and diagnostic networks, outbreak preparedness and response, and health security capacity building while ensuring alignment with national strategies and donor requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership and oversight for all STRIDES technical activities at state level
- Coordinate with government entities, local partners, and subcontractors for seamless implementation
- Lead capacity building initiatives for government counterparts and partners in surveillance, laboratory systems, and outbreak response
- Monitor and maintain protocols, instruments, training materials, reports, and data sets
- Conduct data analysis and provide technical guidance for evidence-based decision making
- Develop technical briefs, reports, tools, and interventions for research and best practices
- Mentor state-level teams and support monitoring & evaluation activities
- Ensure adherence to quality standards, SOPs, and global health security protocols
- Support project planning, budgeting, and client reporting
Required Qualification and Skills
- Master’s Degree or higher in Public Health, Epidemiology, Microbiology, Laboratory Science, Health Systems, or related field
- Minimum 6 years of progressive experience in public health, disease surveillance, laboratory strengthening, or outbreak response
- Proven experience in USG/donor-funded projects (highly preferred)
- Demonstrated expertise in health security, laboratory networks, and surveillance systems
- Strong project management and coordination skills at state/national level
- Excellent analytical, report writing, and presentation skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and database management
- Fluency in written and spoken English
- Ability to travel domestically 10–25%
