FHI 360 is recruiting a Senior Technical Officer to provide state-level technical leadership for the STRengthening Infectious Disease DEtection Systems (STRIDES) project in Kano. This is the most senior technical position in the state and will be responsible for overseeing all technical activities, strengthening surveillance systems, laboratory capacity, outbreak response and ensuring full alignment with national strategies and donor requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership and oversight for all STRIDES activities in Kano State
  • Lead strengthening of disease surveillance, laboratory networks and outbreak response systems
  • Coordinate with state government, NCDC, partners and subcontractors for project implementation
  • Ensure all technical activities are delivered on time, within budget and to the highest quality standards
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to state-level staff and partners
  • Conduct regular technical monitoring and quality assurance visits
  • Contribute to the development of work plans, reports and technical deliverables
  • Support capacity building and training initiatives for government counterparts
  • Represent FHI 360 and STRIDES in state-level technical forums and meetings

Required Qualification and Skills

  • Master’s Degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Microbiology, Laboratory Science or related field
  • Minimum 6+ years relevant experience in public health, disease surveillance or laboratory systems strengthening
  • Previous experience working with USG-funded projects is strongly preferred
  • Deep knowledge of Nigeria’s public health system, NCDC structures and infectious disease surveillance
  • Proven experience providing technical leadership in complex health programs
  • Strong stakeholder management and government engagement skills
  • Excellent report writing and presentation skills
  • Ability to travel up to 25% within Kano State
