Job Description for Examinations Officer

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) is recruiting Examinations Officer (Accounts) to manage financial operations, accounting records, budgeting, and payment systems related to examination activities. The role ensures accuracy, transparency, and compliance in the financial management of examination processes while utilizing computerized accounting systems.

Key Responsibilities for Examinations Officer

  • Manage accounting transactions and maintain accurate financial records for examination activities
  • Process payments to examination centres, supervisors, examiners, and vendors
  • Prepare budgets, financial reports, and periodic accounts
  • Reconcile bank statements and ensure proper retirement of advances
  • Support internal and external audits of examination-related finances
  • Monitor expenditure and ensure compliance with financial regulations
  • Utilize accounting software and maintain up-to-date computerized records
  • Perform any other accounting and financial duties as assigned

Required Qualifications and Skills for Examinations Officer

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Accounting, Banking and Finance, or any related discipline from a recognized institution
  • NYSC discharge, exclusion, or exemption certificate
  • Possession of relevant professional qualification (ICAN, ACCA, etc.) is an added advantage
  • Five (5) credits in SSCE/WASSCE including English Language and Mathematics at one sitting or six (6) credits at not more than two (2) sittings
  • Proficiency in computerized accounting packages and MS Office
  • Strong numerical, analytical, and reconciliation skills
  • High level of integrity, accuracy, and attention to detail
