Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) is recruiting a Field Telecom Engineer to ensure reliable, secure, and safe operation of IT and telecommunications systems across offshore and onshore production and operational environments. The role delivers hands-on field support for critical telecoms services and safety‑critical systems, participates in on-call response, supports capital project delivery, and ensures compliance with offshore safety standards including SOLAS.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on, customer-facing offshore/field support and ensure availability of critical IT systems
  • Support and maintain field telecommunications services (legacy and modern systems)
  • Participate in the Field Telecoms on-call team for operational incidents and emergencies
  • Coordinate logistics, scheduling, maintenance planning, and budget planning for telecoms activities
  • Participate in project peer reviews and health assessments and implement recommendations
  • Ensure telecoms/IT services across Nigeria capital projects (including offshore) are operational
  • Ensure telecoms activities comply with marine and land transport safety policies
  • Collaborate with offshore/onshore leads, integrated service providers, and third-party vendors to deliver end-to-end services
  • Coordinate telecoms project activities and provide risk/mitigation advice to site personnel
  • Manage spares philosophy, obsolescence, and asset integrity based on risk profile
  • Own problem resolution activities until close-out and drive root-cause remediation
  • Execute preventive and corrective maintenance, inspections, and testing of telecoms/IT infrastructure
  • Manage contractors on site in line with Goal Zero and Life-Saving Rules

Required Qualification and Skills

  • Minimum 6 years experience in telecoms/IT service delivery and support (3+ years offshore IT support preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of offshore telecoms technologies: stabilized antennas, radio systems, satellite connectivity (LEO/MEO/GEO), telemetry & navigational systems, weather monitoring, collaboration devices
  • Ability to deliver against stretched targets with strong ownership and accountability
  • Strong stakeholder engagement across business and IT teams
  • Experience with IT and business risk management
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in multicultural environments
  • Minimum 4-year Degree in Electrical/Electronics/Communications/Computer Engineering or Applied Sciences
  • Knowledge of SOLAS safety and security-critical equipment such as GMDSS, PAGA, RADAR, and Inmarsat satellite systems
  • Hands-on experience troubleshooting and maintaining systems such as:
    • Satellite and microwave radio systems
    • Mobile radio systems (Motorola preferred)
    • Telemetry and navigational systems
    • Intrusion detection systems
    • CCTV systems
    • PAGA (Public Address & General Alarm) systems
